Says Saira Banu whose husband Dilip Kumar was discharged from the hospital today
Dilip Kumar's hospitalisation created a big scare, last Saturday. After a brief stay in Lilavati Hospital (Bandra), the 92-year old actor is back home.SpotboyE.com spoke to his wife, Saira Banu. Excerpts from the interview:
How does it feel to have your husband back home on his birthday?
I am relieved and happy.
How is his health now?
His health has improved. And so we could request the doctors to discharge him today. We wanted to have him home on his birthday (December 11). The doctors wanted to discharge him after two days. He is on heavy medication. And since he is in a delicate condition where he is weak and susceptible to infections, we have kept him in isolation. Nobody can meet him,,except his immediate family (pauses).
Please continue...
Dr Parkar who was treating him has instructed us to be very careful with his health and medicines. Everything has to be done with clockwork precision.
Have people still been dropping in to meet him?
Once his health improves, maybe people can meet him. But yeah, we do have visitors. Add this to his hundreds of fans who are standing outside my house (at Pali Hill) as we speak.
Apparently, nobody from the film fraternity dropped in to see him in the hospital this time?
The hospital was not a circus or a social platform. Yusuf saab (as Saira calls him, Dilip Kumar's real name is Muhammad Yusuf Khan) was ill and he still is. I don’t want to discuss who came to see him and who didnt. I know for a fact that he had several well-wishers from the industry and outside praying for his speedy recovery and that is what matters. Apart from the medicines, the prayers have worked in a big way.
What had happened to him? There was a lot of speculation around his illness...
He had bronchial pneumonia. And that is a scary proposition for a man of his age. Fortunately, we took him to the doctors on time. They put him on not only oral medicines but even intravenous drips too.
Are friends and relatives coming home tonight on his birthday?
We have lit up the house to bring in some cheer and happiness. Yusuf saab loves socialising and he feels very happy when our house is lit up. But there is no party. We might hold one when he is a little better.
